May 2013 Ipsy/My Glam with swatches (Updated with coupon codes)

Got my ipsy bag today. I finally find some decent lighting! I was looking forward to get my ipsy bag after reading some of the spoilers.

This month, the make up bag is like the march make up bag. It's made out of a chevron colored lining material on the outside with stuffing in the middle, and another turquoise lining layer on the inside. It's only big enough to fit travel sized items. I really like the color combo but not overly impressed with the material of the pouch.

St. Tropez - Instant Glow Body Lotion
Sample sized: $6 (50ml)
Full sized: $18 (150ml)
"A lightweight cream simply smooths on to give you an instant, even, beautifully golden tan that will wash off whenever you choose. It's transfer resistant so you can tan and go!"
Initial Impressions: Initially when I first sampled this product on my hand I was shocked at how dark and pigmented it was. I took a few pictures, and by the time I smoothed it onto the rest of my hand, it was too late, some of it has already stained that area on my hand. I tried washing it off, and most of it came off, but that spot was still darker than the rest of my hand. So just a warning: I would smooth it out immediately after applying it on the skin or it might stain one area darker. I didn't have that problem again when I smoothed it out immediately after applying. I enjoyed the smell of this lotion, it smells A LOT better than my 'Jergens natural glow'. I was pleasantly surprised that it doesn't have a strong chemical smell like most self-tanners. It also gives a very nice natural tan, and dries quickly and it transfers very little once it has dried (I wiped a Kleenex on my skin and very little color rubbed off). The tan is build-able if you want a darker color. This is the first self-tanning product I have tried and I am liking it so far!

Yaby- Concealer in 'Honey'
sample sized: $1.39 (1g?)
Full sized: $4.85 (3.5g)
"Cream texture and easy to apply, highly pigmented to correct any imperfections on the face and body. "
Initial Impression: The product itself is very creamy and blends well. It was very pigmented. The color is too dark and orangey on me, I think the colors 'cream' or 'custard' would have been a better match for me. If it was the right color for me, I think it would be a pretty good concealer with good coverage and very inexpensive as well!

Zoya- Nail Polish in 'Blu'
Full sized: $8.75 (15ml)
"Can best described as a full-coverage, soft and delicate baby blue with a glossy cream finish. A dreamy, calming blue that's both fun and flattering on the nails. It's free of formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthalate or camphor."
Initial impressions: Haha. First I apologize for my horrible nail painting job and I would like to mention that that's only one coat! I love zoya nail polishes because they usually go on very smoothly and is very pigmented, so one coat usually does the job (Two coats looks amazing). However, this color didn't apply as smoothly as my other Zoya polishes, and from the spoiler pictures online I thought it was going to have some small shimmer/glitter on it. But, I still love this opaque baby blue. I was looking at my nail polish collection the other day and was thinking to myself how I don't have any light colored blues. It's like they read my mind! I am glad I this color from the 'Lovely' collection.

Mirabella in Lipstick 'Posy'
Full sized: $22 (3g)
"Beautifully sheer lip colour to wear all day and night. Mango butter base nourishes lips."
Initial Impression: The lip color is sheer and moisturizing. I don't particularly like the taste of this lipstick to me it kinda tastes like products with spf in it. I was hoping that with the Mango butter, the product would taste more fruity...I think I would have preferred a natural color like 'peony' or 'pixie', but I was glad to find that a light application of this color looked good on my lips and brightened my look. I only wear lip products for special occasions because they rub off easily, and usually the taste of lip products bother me. I don't mind wearing this lipstick for special occasions even though it has a funky spf taste just for the bright look!

Pacifica in Roll on Perfume 'Island Vanilla'
Full sized: $12 (10ml)
"In natural grain alcohol. They are free of phthalates, nitro-musks, benzene, and other things you don't want."
Initial Impression: I am not a big fragrance person nor a vanilla person. I prefer fruitier scents. This will go to one of my friends that will enjoy it more.

Total approx. value of the box: $50.14
Cost of box: $15.25 after conversion and taxes.

Overall impression-I am very satisfied with this month's my glam bag. It had 3 full sized items, and two decent sample sized. Out of the 5 samples I will probably be using three products. The instant glow lotion, nail polish, and the sheer lipstick. The other two samples were not bad, they just didn't suit my preferences. I am glad ipsy is finally stepping up their game after 3-4 months of disappointing bags.

  1. Sounds like someone is just picky. we pay 10 bucks for a bag. lol I wouldnt even rate due to the price we pay. hell 10 bucks would get you the lipstick it self.

    1. I like what you said! I AM picky!! :)

The reason I created this blog was because I wanted a place to express how I felt about the products I received from these subscription box/bags. It's an opportunity for me share it with others who might be deciding whether or not they want to subscribe. It also allows me to share what I have received with others who are already subscribed.

I am glad that you have such a positive view on these bags and you're able to appreciate the value in them!

  2. "I am glad ipsy is finally stepping up their game after 3-4 months of disappointing bags."

10 bucks can't ask for much.

    1. In Canada we actually have to pay more. With taxes it comes up to about $15.25.

I guess in my mind I am thinking: Instead of getting a monthly subscription with products I probably won't be using, I can get myself something nice that I'll actually use with that $45-60 (total of the past 3-4 month's bags)

But I'd like to add that I am super pleased with this month's ipsy bag.

  3. I totally agree with you!! The last few bags were quite disappointing and we, as the consumers paying for the bags, are ALLOWED to be disappointed! even if it's "just 10" (or for us just over $15).
If the bags from here on out are like this month's, then I will be with Ipsy for a long time :)

  4. In my glam room it says I am getting the same lipstick and rollerball but a brow gel instead of the st tropez lotion (boo, I have 2 already and I wanted a self tanner!). I actually like the lipstick and love the polish colour you got! Maybe we can trade if I am not happy with the colour I get (as long as you dont mind it swatched!)

And I agree with you on the way you look at the month's value. I unsubbed for quite a few months but wanted to sub back to this month because I cancelled all my other bb subs.

Anyway, new follower! Id love it if you were interested to follow me back :$ :)

    1. I will totally be up for a trade. I received the Anastasia brow gel before, and totally loved it! Just leave me a comment if you're interested.
